Pre-Conditioning Program

The Pre-Conditioning Program is a continuous, year-round program. New students may join at any time. When you join the Pre-Conditioning, you will receive individual help to get you started. Pre-Conditioning Students learn the same Tae Kwon-Do techniques and forms as they would in the regular Adult Program classes. You will develop strength and vitality through the practice of Tae Kwon-Do in a friendly, supportive environment. Because the IBBCV teaches a non-contact style of Tae Kwon-Do, this program is safe and healthful for adults of all ages and fitness levels. Students enrolled in the Adult Program are welcome to take Pre-Conditioning classes at any time at no additional cost.
THE PRE-CONDITIONING PROGRAM IS DIFFERENT FROM THE ADULT PROGRAM
IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS...
- Material is presented more slowly, with more verbal explanation.
- The cadence is slower, with fewer repetitions per technique.
- The class duration is shorter (45 minutes instead of a full hour).
- There is no jumping or other high-impact exercise.
- There is no belt progression.
THE ADULT PRE-CONDITIONING PROGRAM IS FOR...
- Beginners who need a slower presentation of fundamental techniques before moving into the Adult Program classes.
- Individuals who wish to regain their strength and vitality in a slower progression.
- Individuals for whom the Adult Program classes are too strenuous and aerobic.
- Older adults who prefer to avoid high-impact exercise and are not inclined to progress through the belt ranking system of the Adult Program.
- Adult Program students who wish to focus on basic techniques in order to improve the quality of stances, posture, position of hands, etc.
- Adult Program students who are recovering from an illness or extended absence can use Preconditioning classes to ease back into training.
Adult Program

The Adult Program is for ages 14 and up. Adult Program classes offer highly aerobic*, strength-building workouts which develop fitness, coordination, speed and flexibility, along with improved focus and concentration. The Adult Program is a continuous, year-round program. New students may join at any time.
Note: Adults who are less fit may prefer to start out in our Pre-Conditioning Program.
Special Classes
WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE
This self-defense course is especially and exclusively for women. In studying a martial art like Tae Kwon-Do, the student is learning self-defense but there is also a focus on technical perfection of the art form. On the other hand, in this Women's Self-Defense course, the student learns practical avoidance, prevention, and verbal de-escalation tactics as well as how to physically resist and ultimately escape from a sexual assault. Women learn uncomplicated but very effective techniques that come naturally to them, don't require a lot of practice, and are easy to remember. A big part of self defense is one's attitude, demeanor, and ability to maintain composure in a frightening situation. This course enables women to be confident, competent defenders against sexual assault. It empowers them with knowledge, skills, and the belief that they are truly capable of defending themselves.
FAMILY CLASS
The classes at the IBBCV are segregated according to students' age or physical condition. There are many reasons why it is necessary and beneficial to keep classes customized for disparate groups. Nevertheless, having families train together as a group periodically also has its rewards. Once per week, the IBBCV offers a "Families as One" class where all family members, regardless of which program they are enrolled in, can take a class together. The "Families As One" class is fun-oriented and we focus on choreographing demonstrations that exemplify family unity. Each week, one family member also is given the opportunity to demonstrate a power test (break a board) on behalf of his or her family. The class curriculum varies from week to week and is customized according to the age and belt rank of the students in attendance.
COLOR BELT CLASSES
Most of the IBBCV classes are for a mixture of all belt colors. The benefit of conducting mixed classes is that low belts can watch high belts for inspiration and illustration of advanced techniques, and high belts have an opportunity to refine and improve fundamentals like posture, balance, and stances. To advance in rank, however, the student must prepare a set of forms, powertests, and special techniques that are required for the next belt color. The focus of the color belt class is on these and other rank appropriate techniques.
ONCE A WEEK, THE IBBCV OFFERS A SPECIAL...
- Yellow belt class for yellow belts of all ages
- Green belt class for green belts of all ages
- Blue belt class for blue belts of all ages
- Red and Black belt class for red and black belts of all ages
In addition to these color belt classes, adult classes on Wednesdays at 12:00 noon, 4:30 and 6:15 are oriented toward fundamental techniques. These classes help prepare adult white belts for promotion to Yellow Belt.
TRIAL CLASSES
The IBBCV invites prospective students to observe classes, take a tour of the facility, speak with the instructors, chat with current students and even take a free no-obligation "trial" class. Trial classes are offered on Saturday mornings and are scheduled on an individual basis. Please call the school at (434) 973-8885 if you are interested in scheduling a trial class or if you would like us to send you a price list, class schedule or any other printed information.
