What is Yoga-Do?

Yoga-do integrates traditional Zen taekwon-do and classical yoga into a dynamic art of self-development. By practicing the discipline of yoga and the art of taekwon-do in a peaceful and silent environment, we create a unique opportunity for mental, physical, and spiritual advancement.

 

Who can do Yoga-Do?

Yoga-do is perfect for the martial artist, for the yoga student or for anyone wishing to cultivate strong body and strong mind. The yoga practitioner receives new inspiration from traditional Zen taekwon-do.  A martial artist uses this great opportunity to go deeper into their own flexibility and strength which is a key factor to good martial art technique.

The “do” part of martial arts is highlighted in yoga-do .   The “do” is the path or the way we do anything in our lives. As martial artists we focus much on the physical training aspect of our practice. In yoga-do we emphasize the subtle aspects of our practice such as concentration, non-reaction and inner peace.  The ”do” is part of every martial art.  Yoga-do practice is designed for an accessible experience of conscious movement and meditation realizing progress within weeks.

The Floating Candle

A floating candle is used in yoga-do.  It represents the elements of water and fire. These symbols help us to focus on power and strength while supporting a peaceful outer and inner atmosphere.  This heightened state is achieved when we are balanced.  When a movement or a posture becomes challenging, we focus on the floating candle to anchor our mind back into the present moment. This type of meditation helps us to stay focused on the practice.  The practice delivers the Zen moment which is a clear mind.
